We are excited to announce the availability of RISE Mickey Leland, World Citizen, a documentary film by Dr. Robert Franklin. This video trailer features the late Texas Congressman Mickey Leland, who brought awareness of hunger and other issues, including proposing the African American Museum.
Leland died in a suspicious plane crash in the remote mountains of Ethiopia delivering food aid to refugees.
It contains commentary by the late Congressman John Lewis, former Congressmen, Tony Hall, Mike Epsy, Congresswoman Shelia Jackson Lee, Poet, Activist, Omowale Lathuli Allen, and others.

Robert A. Franklin, PhD. is the General Manager of WCSU-FM, Central State University public radio station. He has more than 20 years of management experience with the National Public Radio (NPR) affiliated station at the University of Nebraska-Omaha, Western Illinois University, University of Maryland Eastern Shore, and KSUT Four Corners Public Radio.
An award-winning radio and documentary film producer. Dr. Franklin’s current film, “Rise-Mickey Leland, Citizen” was recently screened at Texas Southern University in Houston, Texas. Dr. Franklin is a former Joan Barone Shorenstein Congressional Journalism Fellow. Franklin career also includes teaching a variety of college media communication courses.
